Change Healthcare cyber-attack update, Feb 27, 2024

Please see following for the latest update on the Change Healthcare cyber-attack.

Update as of Feb. 27, 2024:

Status

  • Disconnection continues from Change Healthcare to their health care business partners. Change Healthcare, Optum's health care claims switch solution, is actively working on restoring functionality.

  • e-Prescribing is impaired for medications sent to pharmacies who process their claims through the Change Healthcare switch.

    • Impacted pharmacies include Costco, Albertson chain pharmacies (Albertsons, Safeway, Haagen, Sav-On).

Advised Actions

  • e-Prescribing is working, to our knowledge, at the following pharmacy chains:

    • Walgreens, Rite-Aid, CVS, Target, Walmart and Fred Meyer.

  • SureScripts, our vendor for e-Prescribing to the pharmacies, has made an update over the weekend that many may find refreshing from a visibility / usability perspective.

    • Non-Controlled Substance Prescriptions: SureScripts is converting all non-controlled substance prescriptions to a faxed prescription on their own. SureScripts is expected to return an error if the fax is not verified on the retail pharmacy side.

    • Controlled Substance Prescriptions: SureScripts removed the Electronic Prescribing of Control Substances (EPCS) service from all pharmacies that are dependent on the Change Healthcare switch. As a result, Epic should prompt users that the pharmacy selected does not accept EPCS.

  • Credena Health integrated pharmacies are available and are prioritizing hospital discharge prescriptions and urgent outpatient prescriptions but remain ready to serve all patients to ensure access to medications.

    • Credena Health continues to serve patients and ensure timely patient access to medications.

    • Processing times may be longer than normal while teams work through downtime processes.

    • Real-time pharmacy claim processing remains largely offline.

Our priority is the well-being and safety of our patients. By taking proactive measures and informing them of this potential issue, we aim to minimize any inconveniences they may experience.
