Ranjit Hundal, M.D., named South Division Chief Medical Officer

I am pleased to announce that Humboldt County Chief Medical Officer Ranjit Hundal, M.D., has been named CMO for the South Division, a role previously held by Susan Huang, M.D., who now serves as chief executive for the Providence Clinical Network. Dr. Hundal will begin his new role July 1, 2024 and report to me.

With almost three decades of clinical leadership experience, Dr. Hundal’s focus on evidence-based medicine will drive our Clinical Institute model and strengthen our integrated delivery network. Equally important is Dr. Hundal’s dedication to working closely with our physicians, building relationships and achieving outcomes that improve clinical quality.

Dr. Hundal joined Providence in 2022, first as interim CMO in Humboldt County and then as permanent CMO a year later. He also assumed interim chief executive responsibilities for Humboldt County during a search for a permanent CE. The dual roles broadened his executive leadership skills in driving strategies for the ministry’s transition to the post-pandemic recovery.

Before joining Providence, Dr. Hundal served as senior vice president and chief clinical officer for Huntington Hospital in Pasadena. Prior to that, Dr. Hundal was the chief medical executive for Sutter Health Mills-Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame. Dr. Hundal practiced as a hospitalist for many years in the San Francisco Bay Area, before leading his group and serving in various clinical and quality improvement roles during that time.

Dr. Hundal received his medical degree from Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals Medical School, University of London. He holds an MBA in Health Care Leadership from the Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee. He is board certified in internal medicine.

Dr. Hundal resides in the Los Angeles area with his wife, a cardiologist, and two children.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the board members, mission leaders and executives who participated in our search for a CMO. Their participation in the process was invaluable.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Hundal and supporting him as he transitions into his new role.
