Providence has established a dedicated team to assess the impact of recent presidential executive orders on our organization. While we await further information and monitor legal and legislative developments, I want to inform you of the resources we have made available to support our caregivers, physicians and patients during this time. As more information becomes available, I will continue to share it.
Brian Helleland, Chief Executive
Thank you for your continued patience as we evaluate the implications of new presidential executive orders. In many cases, we are still waiting for the accompanying rules to be issued and are continuing to monitor legal and legislative challenges, including by our state governments. From your feedback, we have developed/curated the following resources to support you, your teams and our patients. We’ll continue to provide additional resources as we know more about these evolving issues.
Patient information
- Providence Patient Handout: Will my immigration status be shared with law enforcement?
- Providence One Pager for Front Desks: What to do if immigration enforcement shows up at your facility
- Know Your Rights flyer from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center
Resources for caregivers who are not U.S. citizens
- Know Your Rights as an Immigrant Worker from the National Immigration Law Center
Patient requests for physician letters
- Some patients have requested letters from physicians about their medical condition to support their case with immigration officials. Please remember, such letters are at the discretion of the physician, require patient consent and should focus only on the clinical status of the patient. They should not include commentary on the patient’s immigration status or citizenship.
