Honoring St. Joseph – the patron saint of workers

Honoring St. Joseph – the patron saint of workers

Dear Medical Staff,

Tomorrow, we celebrate St. Joseph’s Day, a tribute to the patron saint of workers, fathers and the Catholic Church and the namesake of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange. This sacred day is an opportunity to recognize St. Joseph’s history and to pay solemn remembrance to his giving spirit.

In the Catholic tradition, the feast of St. Joseph is to honor his role in ending drought and famine. Across the globe, parishioners make altars, wear red, hold mass, and donate to those in need to reflect the example he set, and to pay homage to Joseph’s role as adopted father to Jesus.

We’ll be hosting several events tomorrow, including:

  • Distribution of a gift for caregivers at 6:15 a.m. and 6 p.m. at caregiver entrances
  • A special mass in our chapel at 12 pm
  • A ‘themed’ meal served in our cafeteria. Caregivers will receive a complimentary naval orange.
  • Distribution of 2025 Sister Madeleva Williams prayer cards
  • Caregivers are encouraged to wear red in St. Joseph’s honor

We’re partnering with local Girl Scout Troop 8627 all week to collect donations of gently worn denim, new socks and new t-shirts. Your donations will support the Orange County Rescue Mission. Drop off donations at the following blue bin locations:

  • Café Le Puy
  • Cafeteria
  • Cancer Center
  • Outpatient Pavilion
  • Sister Elizabeth Building

I hope to see you at one of the events this week. Thank you for all that you do.
