Dear Medical Staff,
Wishing you all a Happy St. Patrick’s Day! While this holiday has become synonymous with green beer, shamrocks and leprechauns, St. Patrick’s Day is an opportunity to recognize the important role early Irish immigrants had in shaping the United States. Many came to America during the Great Famine in Ireland, working low-wage, physically demanding jobs like building canals and railroads to make ends meet.
Over time, Irish immigrants not only built our country, but through grit and determination, they built power and influence, ultimately becoming a central part of American history and culture. Today, more than 38 million Americans have partial or full Irish ancestry, and St. Patrick’s Day is one of the most celebrated cultural holidays in the country, even for people who aren’t of Irish descent.
The light-hearted nature and inclusiveness make it a holiday everyone enjoys observing in some form. I hope you have an opportunity to celebrate today.
Wishing you all a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
