Congratulations to St. Joseph Hospital Director of Structural Heart Disease Brian C. Kolski, MD, a coauthor of “Sustained Mechanical Aspiration Thrombectomy for High Thrombus Burden Coronary Vessel Occlusion: The Multicenter CHEETAH Study,” published Feb. 21, 2023, in the high-impact journal of the American Heart Association Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions. Dr. Kolski states, “The CHEETAH trial was one of the largest trials of its kind. We can be very proud that St. Joes was one of the leading enrollers.” The CHEETAH study screened 1,380 patients and enrolled 400 with a mean age of 60.4 years from 25 hospitals across the U.S. from Aug. 2019 to Dec. 2020, following them for 180 days. Study results suggest that selective sustained mechanical aspiration thrombectomy prior to percutaneous coronary intervention in high thrombus burden acute coronary syndrome patients may be appropriate; and that based on final angiography, the Indigo CAT RX Aspiration System was safe and associated with reduction of thrombus burden, restoration of flow and normalization of myocardial perfusion.
