Medical Staff Wins

We congratulate Ashok J. Kar, MD, a former Chief of Staff, and Preston Flanigan, MD, on their Emeritus status. Dr. Kar was the first medical director for St. Joe’s Robotics Program and now teaches surgery at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Dr. Kar was instrumental in the hospital’s acquisition of its first robot via his grateful patient. He performed St. Joseph’s first robotic case – a prostatectomy to cure prostate cancer. Dr. Flanigan has practiced at SJO since 1988. He served as our medical director of the Vascular Services, and is a past president of the Southern California Vascular Services Society. It’s not a win to see colleagues retire from Active Staff, but longtime partnerships with them were a win for our hospital and community.
